You have probably already noticed your child is ready for summer vacation, but we can make it until Friday, May 22, at 12:30 PM. (May 22nd will be our last day of school for the 2014-2015 school year!)
Your child will be bringing home most— if not, all of his/her school supplies on Thursday, May 21st.
On the last day of school (Friday), your child will receive his/her grade card–if all lunch charges are paid, Tiger Tales charges are paid, library books returned, etc. Your child will also be bringing home his/her Data Binder. So, your child WILL need his/her backpack. We will also reminisce over our year together.

Learning can be so much fun! Do you know what will happen if you put two Mentos candies into a 2-liter of cola? There is a reaction between the carbonated beverage (Sam’s Cola, Sam’s Diet Cola, and Big Red) and Mentos mints that causes the beverage to spray out of its container.
If you would like to try this at home, you will need the following:
*Mentos candies (DO NOT USE Mentos gum—it will not work.)
*2-liter bottle of a carbonated beverage
*the great outdoors (Unless you want to clean up a mess)
Have fun!

Field Trip
We had a WONDERFUL time on our field trip to CiCi's Pizza! The students were able to take a quick tour of the kitchen then they tried their hand at making a pizza. Pepperoni and Cheese pizzas seemed to be the favorites. After our morning of fun, we were off to the park. The Nathaniel Greene Park was PERFECT! We played on the equipment and with our friends. All this could not have been possible without our volunteers. So, a HUGE thank you for all the volunteers! You are appreciated!

Please place your child’s leaves in a Ziploc baggie and label it with his or her name. Your child’s leaves are due on Tuesday, October 7! Have fun exploring nature and enjoy the cool, fall weather!

Our Science Experiment
I think the highlight of this past week was doing our first science experiment! First, the children made a hypothesis (guess) whether or not the items we selected would sink or float when we put the items in water. Then the children placed their items into the water. Finally, we recorded our results in our science notebooks. From the excitement in the room, I do believe that the children love science!

Family and Fun
WOW! It has been a week. I am thankful that we have Monday off due to the Labor Day holiday. I hope everyone enjoys our three-day weekend.
We have taken our first spelling test today (8/29/14), and your child should have brought it home. As we said in the spelling note, the spelling test will NOT be recorded for a score, but it was "graded" to help monitor student progress. Please continue to study with your child each week. He/she needs to know these words in order to be a successful reader and writer!

First Week of School
We had a busy first week of school, but we had a wonderful week. We spent time getting to know each other. We have 12 boys and 12 girls in our class. (Your child should have gotten home with an envelope with his/her first day of school picture in it.)
Thank you for looking at your child's Communication Folder (Red folder) this weekend. Each child has a calendar in his/her communication folder which has a stamp for the kind of day that your child has had here at school. Example--Green mean a good day. Yellow means that he/she had to have a few reminders to follow the school rules. Tiger Stripes means he/she has had an EXCEPTIONAL day.
Thank you, in advance, for your help throughout the coming school year. We are looking forward to a great time together in first grade.
